Lesson FAQs
What’s better for me, 30- or 60-minute lessons?
For the beginner or novice player, 30-minute lessons on a weekly or bi-weekly basis are a better choice. For intermediate or experienced players, 60-minute lessons spaced out to allow for more practice time in-between seem most effective, as they give more time to dig in to complex subjects and address a greater number of topics per session.
What topics will we cover?
That’s entirely up to your individual needs. While Robb encourages students to bring questions about anything music-related, from rhythm to technique to harmony to equipment choice, he’s also happy to lead each lesson and suggest material based on your current needs and playing ability. Robb will also take time each lesson to help you establish an effective practice strategy that suits your goals and schedule, allowing you to maximize your development between lessons.
How frequently should I take lessons?
That depends entirely on your schedule, available practice time and budget. Many students sign up for regular weekly or bi-weekly lessons, while others prefer to book ‘a la carte’, dropping in for a lesson when they have a specific issue they’d like to work through, or feel their progress has plateaued.
How are the lessons administered?
Lessons are conducted over Zoom, with Skype and FaceTime video also available by request. In-person lessons are suspended at the moment due to COVID-19 restrictions.
